Why using Oracle Cards in therapy makes sense?
First, let’s quickly dive into the psychology of the mind and its parts.
Sigmund Freud, an Austrian neurologist, became known as the Founder of Psychoanalysis. Freud divided the mind into three different levels:
- The Conscious Mind. This involves everything in the mind that we are aware of.
- The Preconscious Mind. This is the part that represents ordinary memory. While we are not consciously aware of this information at any given time, we can “retrieve” it into consciousness when needed.
- The Unconscious Mind. This is the collection of feelings, thoughts, and memories that exist outside of our conscious awareness. The context of the unconscious is usually unpleasant, including feelings of pain, anxiety, or conflict. According to Freud, even though we aren’t aware of its underlying influence, the unconscious continues to influence our behavior and experience.
Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, built upon Freud’s theory of the mind by adding his concept of the Collective Unconscious.
The Collective Unconscious is a universal library or resource center of human knowledge.
Inspired by Jung’s theory of the Collective Unconscious, I am devoted to helping women connect with what I call the Collective Wisdom.
Images, memories, and dreams can be used as metaphors, connecting us not only to OUR collective unconscious but to THE collective feminine wisdom we all share.
Collective Wisdom lives in our souls, but it often remains hidden until something triggers it. Oracle cards (much like dreams and memories) are the perfect trigger to make this wisdom alive and active.
Oracle cards are a combination of words and images. Words trigger the left side of the brain. Images trigger the right side of the brain. They offer a tangible way to connect to our intuition, imagination, creativity, and the library of collective wisdom within all of us.
The power of the oracle can be taken a step further by pairing it with Guided Imagery, also developed by Jung.
Guided Imagery or Guided Visualization is a meditation technique that bridges the conscious and the unconscious, often resulting in deep insights and answers.
It is a privilege to incorporate the theories of those who came before me into my signature healing process experienced by thousands of women.
“The collective unconscious consists of the sum of the instincts and their correlates, the archetypes. Just as everybody possesses instincts, so he also possesses a stock of archetypal images.” – Carl Jung
