PORTSMOUTH, RI — After a long hiatus amid the COVID-19 pandemic, police and fire departments on Aquidneck Island will hit the ice this month for the return of the “Guns N’ Hoses” charity hockey game.
This year’s game, which features Portsmouth, Newport and Middletown police officers and firefighters lacing up the skates, will be played at 3:30 p.m., Jan. 15, at St. Goerge’s Ice Rink on Purgatory Road in Middletown.
Middletown police said this year’s proceeds will go to two causes. The first is to aid a Middletown Public Schools employee in her fight against cancer. The second cause benefitting from the game is the National Alliance on Mental Illness Rhode Island to raise awareness for mental health issues first responders face.
The suggested donation at the door is $10 per person and $20 per family. There will also be gift baskets raffled off from each police union and a 50/50 raffle.
Parking will be in the mainice rink lot, and overflow parking will be at the Surfer’s End lot of Second Beach.
Anyone who would like to sponsor the game should call Middletown police union President David Guerriero at 401-846-1144, extension 7023.
